The Buffalo Employment and Training Center brings together a variety of workforce development organizations and partner agencies with a primary goal of assisting residents of Buffalo and Erie County to gain employment and assist employers in finding qualified workers. The purpose of the Center is to conveniently bring employment, training and other workforce services to residents and employers in a one-stop environment. Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County (LV/BEC) is the region's sole provider of free, one-on-one adult literacy services. Our mission and commitment is to improve the well being of families in Buffalo and Erie County by providing reading, English language learning and literacy services to anyone wishing to improve their literacy skills. We achieve this through recruiting, training and supporting a dedicated group of volunteers who work one-on-one with adults or children as tutors and mentors. The Parachute Group is a networking group for individuals who are in career/job transition, and for people who have lost their jobs and would like to meet with individuals who are in the same situation.  We share ideas, contacts and an opportunity to network. 
 
Guest speakers range from professionals in the outplacement industry who provide tips on resume writing and interviewing techniques, to former group members who come back after they have found jobs to share tips and ideas for finding your next job/position. For more information, click here.

 

Read to Succeed coalition includes more than forty organizations committed to improving literacy in Buffalo . Its members are united around a much larger goal -- to redesign Buffalo’s fragmented system of literacy services and replace it with a coordinated, comprehensive system that will address the literacy needs of Buffalo’s children and adults.
